It’s been a while since I’ve written.  I keep meaning to get back to it, but . . . .

Then I was reminded of these verses (while reading Scandalous by D. A. Carson, at page 124 – awesome book, by the way).   More than 200 years old and they’re better than anything I’m likely to write — and they’re on one of my favorite dispute resolution topics:  Perspective.

Consider:

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan His work in vain;
God is His own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

–William Cowper, 1774 (last four stanzas of “God Moves In Mysterious Ways”;  reportedly the last hymn he wrote.)

Do you believe that?  Really?  Can you live it?

Blessings,

M. Glenn Curran, III, Esquire
